Welcome and About the Author

20160321_134150

Welcome to Activities in Naples. I will be posting and reviewing cultural and other recreational activities in Naples, Florida. This site is intended for residents and visitors who would like to explore different activities in the Naples area.

I currently reside and work in Naples. I created this website because I like to learn about different activities in Naples and the surrounding area. Also, I would like to provide people one place to go to find all of the activities.

If you find an fun activity that I did not post then you can write it in a comment section. Also, if you have done one of the activities that I posted, you can write a review (make sure if criticizing something that it is constructive).

Here are links to Naples Activities Florida Facebook and Twitter pages.

Enjoy

Holiday Fun in Naples

This month I will be posting different holiday events I went to. I will add events as I go throughout the month. I listed a bunch of the events in the December Special Events if you are interested in going. You can write your interest and/or experience in the comments section. I will write the experiences here and post the pictures on facebook (@naplesflactivities)

Holiday on the Bay

I went to this on December 1st. They have it every Saturday through Christmas. Venetian Village has shops and restaurants alongside the bay. It was very crowded due to the event and people going out to dinner on a Saturday night. There was a lot of decorations and lights all over the village. There was a very long line to see Santa, which I had no interest in. There was a big tree, performances by local groups, and snow. Additionally, there were showcasing animals such as snakes, skunk and mini gator. I stayed as far away as I could, but I took some pictures. You could pet them if you wanted to. It was a nice experience to go especially for the family. The only issue was finding a parking space.

Chanukah Celebration

This event was on December 3rd at Mercato. It as located on the grass area across the street from the movie theater. They had a stage with people talking and performing. Also, there were booths from different organizations promoting there place and/or celebrating Chankuah traditions. One of the booths I made an edible dreidel. They lit a menorah. I only stayed for part of it. The event was okay.

Let’s Paint Chanukah

On Tuesday I went to another Chanukah Celebration at Cambier Park in Downtown Naples. Let’s Paint Chanukah was by hosted by Chabad Naples. This event was more for families and children. They had booths surrounding the bandshell such as making edible sand flask (which I did), painting a menorah and driedel, throwing darts at balloons with paint (I did break a balloon, they were trying to make a painting with the balloon splatters), selling merchandise such as kitchen smocks, inflatable slide, and some organizations in the neighborhood. Also, there were some foods booths selling food such as sno-cone truck, homemade jelly donuts, hot dogs and latkes. I did get a donut and latke, I like the latke more than the donut. On the bandshell, there were some performances.

Christmas Parade – “Dreaming of Naples Christmas”

The Christmas Parade was done by the City of Naples. There were lots of lights and people. The prime spot for the parade was on 5th Avenue. I did not get there till a little after 6 and it was hard for me to find a good spot to take pictures, so most of the pictures I took has someone heads in it. There was a variety of marching bands, people in office, cars, a lighted school bus, lighted fire truck, dance group and more. I did not stay for the whole thing. It was enjoyable and would recommend to go once to experience one of big events for the holidays in Naples.

I will post this at the end of November, but I will be adding more events throughout the month. If I missed something that you think others would be interested please post it in the comment section.

Freedom Park

Happy Veterans Day. I am not a veteran, but I thought I should honor them by writing about a place that does honors our Veterans. I went to Freedom Park a couple of weeks ago and decided to save to post it today. Freedom Park honors veterans and remembers the individuals from 9/11. There is a big flag statue that is part of the Freedom Memorial in front of the park that has bricks with peoples names on them. The parking lot is east of the memorial.  There is a decent amount of parking. Right behind the parking lot there is an exhibition hall (which was closed) and bathrooms before going onto the trails.

There are multiple trails at Freedom Park. I went on the lake trail, which went around a big lake inside the park. It was very peaceful, considering that it right on the corner of Goodlette-Frank Road and Golden Gate Parkway. I forgot to turn on my pedometer on, so I am not sure how long the loop was. I would guess it was about a mile. I enjoyed walking around there and would definitely go back. I would probably go there if I was in the area. Freedom Park is close to Coastland Mall, Naples Zoo and Conservancy of Southwest Florida.

Also, Freedom Park is part of Conservation Collier. If you are interested in learning more about Conservation Collier, you can go to the link below.

North Collier Park

I went recently to North Collier Park. I have been there a few other times. It is a big park with lots of amenities. The park has multiple soccer and softball fields. Additionally, there is a fitness facility, the C’mon Children’s Museum and Sun and Fun Lagoon.

At North Collier Park, I went for a long walk around checking out the entire park. There is a long path and trail surrounding the park. The trail is very peaceful and quiet. Part of the trail is around the fields and part of it is enclosed with trees and marshes. I did see some butterfly gardens, which the flowers were also beautiful. I did not go inside of the fitness center or to the Sun and Fun Lagoon (I would like to go there someday and write about my experience there).

I would totally recommend going to North Collier Park if you want to go on a walk and enjoy some nature. I went when there were no soccer and softball games going on. One time I did go to the park when there was soccer games going on and it was much more busy, but it was still nice.

The new picture for the blog is from the trail at the park.
